UseMart Help
Answers about buying, selling and meeting safely on UseMart.
Getting started
What is UseMart?
UseMart is a local marketplace for Central Arkansas. People near you list things they want to sell. You find them, message the seller, agree on a price and meet up to pick the item up.
- Buying is free.
- Sellers pay a small monthly plan.
- UseMart never handles the money. You pay the seller in person, the way you both agree.
- UseMart is run by Marvel Corp, an Arkansas company.
Who can use UseMart?
Adults. When you make an account you tick "I'm 18 or older".
Right now UseMart covers ZIP codes in our launch area. If your ZIP is not in it yet, you will see "that ZIP isn't in the launch area yet".
How do I sign in?
There is no password to remember.
- Tap Sign In at the top.
- Type your email (or your username if you already have an account).
- New here? Also fill in your ZIP and county. A username is optional - it is the name buyers see.
- Tap Sign in. We email you a 6-digit code from [email protected].
- Type the code. It works once and only for 10 minutes.
- You stay signed in on that phone or computer for 30 days.
- No email? Check your spam folder, then tap send a new code.
- A new code cancels the old one.
- By signing up you agree to the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
How do I set my ZIP and how far to look?
- Tap Change Location on Items for Sale.
- Type your 5-digit ZIP.
- Pick how far: 10, 25, 50 or 100 miles. 25 miles is the starting setting.
- Tap Use this area.
Distance is measured from the middle of each ZIP code area, not from anyone's house.
Is there a phone app?
You can add UseMart to your home screen. It opens full screen like an app.
- iPhone (Safari): tap Share, then Add to Home Screen.
- Android (Chrome): tap the three dots, then Install app.
Buying
How do I search?
- Type what you want in the search box (for example "dresser").
- Pick a category if you like.
- Use the filters: price range, condition, and sort (newest, price, nearest).
- Tap Load More Items to see more.
Tip: search looks for your words exactly as typed. If "oak dresser" finds nothing, try just "dresser".
What does the distance on an item mean?
It is about how far the seller's ZIP area is from yours. The map on an item shows the general area only. The exact meeting spot is agreed in messages.
How do I save an item?
Tap the heart (Save). Find your saved items under Saved at the top.
If the seller lowers the price of an item you saved, we let you know.
What is Wanted / WantFinder?
WantFinder watches for things you are looking for.
- Go to Wanted (or the WantFinder box).
- Type what you want, like "riding lawn mower".
- Pick how far to look. Add a max price if you want.
- Tap Create Alert.
When a matching item is posted near you, it shows on your WantFinder list and you get a notice on UseMart. You can pause or delete an alert any time. Sellers never see who made an alert.
How do I message a seller?
- Open the item.
- Use Quick question (for example "Hi! Is this still available?") and tap Send.
- Your chat shows up under Messages.
Some sellers also list other ways to reach them (text, call, Messenger). You only see those when you are signed in. UseMart messages always work.
Will I get an email when someone answers?
If email alerts are on for your account, we send one short summary email at most every 30 minutes. It never includes the message itself - just the item and a count. Turn it on or off on your Profile page.
How do I make an offer?
- Open your chat with the seller under Messages.
- Type an amount in the Make offer box and tap it.
- The seller can accept, decline or send a counter offer.
- An offer lasts 48 hours, then it expires.
- A new offer replaces your last open one.
- "Firm" on an item means the seller does not want to haggle. "Open to offers" means they do.
What is "I'm interested"?
One tap tells the seller you want the item, without writing a message. You join the seller's list of interested buyers. You can add a note if you want. You never see who else is interested or how many.
What does "On hold" mean?
The seller is holding the item for another buyer for now.
- You can still tap "I'm interested" and get in line.
- While it is on hold, nobody else can set up or finish a pickup for it.
- If that deal falls through, the seller goes to the next person in line.
- You will not be told who it is held for.
When the seller accepts your offer, the item goes on hold for you.
How do I set up a pickup?
- In the chat, open Set a pickup.
- Pick a day and time.
- Pick a public place from the list (police safe exchange spots, a store entrance, a library) or type your own. Never use a home address.
- Tap Set pickup. Both of you see the time and place in the chat.
To change it, use Change the pickup. The new time replaces the old one.
What is the 4-digit handshake code?
It is how UseMart knows a deal really happened.
- When a pickup is set, the BUYER gets a 4-digit code in the chat. Only the buyer sees it.
- Meet the seller and look at the item.
- Only once you have the item, read your code to the seller.
- The seller types it in and taps Confirm deal. The deal is done.
No code handy? You can both tap We met - mark done instead (up to 72 hours after the meet time).
A finished deal counts as a verified deal for both of you, and you can both leave a rating.
The seller didn't show up. What do I do?
- Wait at least 30 minutes after the meet time.
- Open the chat and tap They didn't show.
- It goes on the seller's record. You can set a new pickup or move on.
If you think something is wrong (a scam, threats), report it - see Problems below.
Can I cancel a pickup?
Tap Cancel pickup in the chat. The other person is told. Cancelling at least 2 hours before the meet time is not held against you. Cancelling later can count on your record.
Can I buy digital products?
Some sellers list digital products with one "Get it here" link. You pay at that link, not on UseMart. Never pay a stranger by gift card, wire or a payment app for a digital item.
What is Best Offer?
Some items run a Best Offer timer. While it runs, only buyers with strong ratings (4.5+ stars from 5+ ratings as a buyer) can make an offer. When the timer ends it is an ordinary listing again.
Selling
How do I get paid?
Buyers pay you directly when you meet - cash, Venmo, Cash App, Zelle or PayPal, whatever you both agree. UseMart never handles the money and takes no cut of your sale. Count cash in front of the buyer, and never hand over an item for a "payment" you can't see yet. Tip: list the ways you take payment in My Seller Profile and they show on every item.
Do I need a plan to sell?
Yes. Buying is free. Posting items needs a seller plan, paid monthly on Whop (Marvel Corp's payment page):
| Plan | Price | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Individual Seller | $4.99 a month | Most people |
| Business Seller | $24.99 a month | Shops - adds Bulk Upload from your store file |
| Business Plus | $49.99 a month | Bigger shops |
- On your Profile page, pick a plan. It opens Whop.
- Pay on Whop with the same email as your UseMart account.
- Come back and tap I've paid - check now.
- Business plans also need a business email (your own domain, not Gmail or Yahoo), the legal name, city and an Arkansas Secretary of State filing number or EIN. A person at UseMart approves it. Until then you sell at the Individual level.
- No plan, payment or badge ever changes your ratings.
Is there a free trial?
New sellers can try selling free for 30 days. No card needed. Our first 50 sellers get 3 months free on a monthly plan with code FOUNDER50 at Whop checkout - after that it is the normal price, and you can stop any time.
- On your Profile page, tap Start my free trial.
- One trial per account, ever.
- We remind you 7 days and 1 day before it ends. When it ends, pick a plan to keep selling. If you don't, your account drops to the free level: your newest 5 live items stay up, the rest are hidden (not deleted) and come back as soon as you pay.
What is Snap & Sell?
On List an Item, add your photos and tap 📸 Snap & Sell. Our AI looks at your first 3 photos and fills in the title, description, category and condition for you. It may also show an AI estimate of the price, with how sure it is - you set the price yourself (tap Use it if you agree). Check every field before you post: nothing is posted until you press Post. Each seller gets a set number of tries a day; when AI is resting, just fill the form by hand. Your photos are only used to write the suggestion - UseMart keeps only the cost of the AI call, not the photos or what it wrote.
What is AI Boost?
More AI uses when your free ones for the day run out. Packs: 100 uses $2.99, 500 uses $9.99, 1,200 uses $19.99 - they never expire. Your free tries each day are always used first; after that, each Snap & Sell uses one Boost use. Buy a pack on Whop with the same email as your UseMart account, then tap I bought AI Boost - check now on your Profile page (or I bought one - check now in the pop-up). If the AI can't be reached, the use is given back.
What happens when I run out of AI uses?
A window pops up: once when you've just used your last free try for the day, and again if you tap 📸 Snap & Sell with no free tries and no Boost uses left. It shows the three AI Boost packs - tap one to buy it on Whop, then tap I bought one - check now. Or tap Not now and fill the form in by hand - everything else on UseMart works the same. Your free tries start again the next day.
How many photos can I add?
It depends on your seller plan: Individual 5 photos per item, Business 15, Business Plus 25. Business and Business Plus also get unlimited photo space; Individual sellers get 500 MB (about 150-250 items). Your plan card on the Profile page shows yours.
How do invite rewards work?
Share your invite link (Profile -> Invite friends). When someone joins with it and becomes a paying seller, you get 15 free days - and they stack (two paying sellers = a free month). If you pay on Whop the days go straight onto your Whop plan, so your next charge moves out; otherwise UseMart adds free selling time. You need to be a seller yourself to get them (they wait until you are). If the new seller refunds within 7 days, unused days are taken back.
What are strikes?
Strikes keep UseMart friendly. Rude or vulgar language = 1 point, an inappropriate photo = 2 (a person always decides), hate, threats, sexual content or a scam = 3 and the account is paused until a person looks. At 3 points your limits go down, at 6 the account is paused for 7 days, at 10 it is banned (your items are hidden, never deleted). Points fade after 180 days. You see every strike and the reason on your Profile page. Banned by mistake? You can appeal once at usemart.net/#appeal.
Do you check photos?
Yes - new photos are checked by AI for nudity, sexual content, gore or hate symbols. If something looks wrong the item waits for a person to look; nothing happens to your account unless a person agrees. Ordinary items are fine.
Why do I get "rate your deal" reminders?
After a pickup is confirmed with the handshake, you have 14 days to rate the other person. If you haven't yet, we remind you after a day, on day 5 and one last time on day 12 - then never again. Ratings stay blind: neither of you sees the other's rating until both are in (or the 14 days end).
What are stickers?
Stickers are earned from real activity on UseMart - they can't be bought. Sellers earn things like Top Rated Seller (10+ sales with a 4.8+ rating), Fast Responder, Always On Time, Smooth Dealer and Fair Pricer; buyers earn Top Buyer, Fast Replier, Serious Shopper, Quick Pickup and more. Everyone who joins in UseMart's first 90 days (and the first 50 paying sellers) gets Founding Member for good. See yours, and how to earn the rest, under My Stickers on your Profile page. A sticker goes away if you stop meeting its rule and comes back when you do.
How does Follow work?
Tap Follow on a seller's profile or seller box. When they post something new you get a notice (at most one a day per seller), and it's in your email summary if you get alert emails. Tap Following to stop.
What's on a member's profile?
Tap a seller's name to see their profile: how many items they have up, completed sales and purchases, how often and how fast they usually reply, how many meetups went as planned, and whether their email is verified. Every number comes from real activity on UseMart.
How do I post my first item?
- Tap List an Item.
- Add photos (up to 5). At least one is required.
- Type a short, clear title. Example: "Oak dresser, solid wood".
- Type a price. Type 0 if it is free. Tick Price is firm if you won't haggle.
- Pick the condition and a category.
- Write a description: size, age, any flaws, pickup only or not. Tap Say it to talk instead of type, if your device shows it.
- Pick how buyers get it (pickup, delivery, and so on).
- Optional details help: brand, size, dimensions, pickup times, smoke-free home, which payments you take.
- Tap Post it.
Never put your street address in a listing. Buyers see your town only.
Can UseMart walk me through it?
Yes. Tap Help me list it on the Post an item page (your very first item opens this way by itself). It asks one thing per screen: photos, what it is, condition, price, a short description, then shows your item exactly as buyers will see it before you tap Post it.
- Your half-done item is saved on your phone or computer, so a phone call doesn't lose it. Nothing is posted until you tap Post it.
- See an example shows a sample item marked EXAMPLE. It is never posted.
- Selling a vehicle or a digital product? Use the full form - they need extra details.
Photo tips
- Take photos in daylight or a bright room. Turn off the flash if it makes glare.
- Clear the clutter behind the item.
- First photo = the whole item. Then close-ups, labels, model numbers and any damage.
- Show the real item, not a picture from a store website.
- Use only photos you took or have the right to use.
- No license plates, faces of other people, or mail with your address in the shot.
- JPG or PNG, under 8 MB each.
- UseMart removes the hidden location data from phone photos before saving them.
How should I price it?
- Look at what similar items near you are listed for.
- On an item page you may see the UseMart Price Guide: the range that similar items really sold for on UseMart in the last year. It only shows once there are at least 5 verified UseMart sales of similar items. It is a guide from past local sales, not an appraisal, and an asking price is never counted as a sale.
Why is my item "held for review"?
Some words or items need a person to look first (for example words from our prohibited-items list). A held item is not public. A person at UseMart approves it or removes it. Nothing is deleted.
Some things are never allowed on UseMart: weapons, drugs, alcohol and tobacco, adult items, live animals, jobs, housing, counterfeit or stolen goods, and more.
See Prohibited Items at the bottom of the page.
How do I edit an item?
- Go to My Stuff.
- Tap Edit on the item.
- Change what you need and tap Save changes.
Edits are checked by the same rules as a new post. If an edit gets flagged, the item is held for review.
If you lower the price, people who saved it are told.
How do I mark an item sold?
- In My Stuff, tap the arrow next to Edit on the item.
- Tap Mark as sold, then tap again to confirm.
Everyone else chatting about it is told "This item has sold". Their open offers and pickups are closed.
If you sold it through UseMart's handshake code, it is marked sold for you.
It sold somewhere else, or I don't want to sell it any more.
- In My Stuff, tap the arrow next to Edit.
- Tap Sold somewhere else or No longer available, then tap again to confirm.
The item is hidden, open offers close, booked pickups are cancelled and buyers are told.
"No longer available" items go to your Expired tab, so you can relist later.
How long does an item stay up?
14 days. Then it hides (it is not deleted) and moves to your Expired tab.
- To bring it back, tap Relist for 14 days. Your first 3 relists can be at any price. After that, lower the price to relist again - as often as you like. Each relist is checked against the prohibited-items list again.
- If a pickup is booked when the 14 days run out, the item stays up until that pickup is done - or until 72 hours after the meet time - and then it expires.
Does UseMart check vehicle titles?
No. The seller picks the title status (clean, rebuilt, salvage, lien, bill of sale or no title) and buyers see it, but UseMart doesn't check titles. The buyer and seller handle the title between them - see the title in the seller's name before you pay.
What does "Paused" mean in My Stuff?
- Paused - plan lapsed: your seller plan ended. The item comes back as soon as you renew.
- Paused by UseMart: a person at UseMart is looking at the item or the account. Nothing is deleted. Ask us if you don't know why.
- Account closed: the account was closed, so its items are off UseMart.
Who is interested in my item?
Each item has a Buyer Interest panel: views, saves, interested buyers, messages, offers and pickup requests, plus a line of buyers in the order they came.
- Hold for this buyer puts the item on hold. Other buyers see "On hold" (never who) and stay in line. Nobody else can set up or finish a pickup while it's held.
- Release ends the hold, and we show you who is next in line.
- Close ends one buyer's spot.
You see only what the chat already shows: their UseMart name, messages, offers and pickup times.
Can I email my items in?
Send photos and one line (like "Riding mower, runs great, $1,200, pickup in Conway") to [email protected] from the same email as your UseMart account. UseMart makes a draft and emails you a link. Nothing goes live until you check it and tap Publish.
Use that exact address - with +list in it. Mail to our plain address is read by a person, never turned into a listing.
Can I upload my whole store? (Business plans)
Yes - Bulk Upload in My Stuff takes the product file from Shopify, Square, WooCommerce, Etsy, eBay or any CSV with a title and price. Every row becomes a draft. You check each one and tap Publish.
Can I post to Facebook and other sites too?
Yes. On an active item tap Share Everywhere. You pick your Facebook groups, copy text for Facebook Marketplace, share to your profile, or copy the link. UseMart counts each group's posting limits for you. You do the posting - UseMart never logs in to Facebook for you.
The "Where should this go?" step lets you pick places and read each place's rules first. Then you get one tap per place. We try and show which sites accepted it, but UseMart can't see inside other sites. When it sells, we give you a list of posts to delete.
Why don't I see every Facebook group?
UseMart lists the buy/sell groups in its area - Conway / Faulkner County and Central Arkansas for now. Groups further away are kept for when UseMart grows there. When you add a group of your own, type the Arkansas town or county it's for (for example Conway or Faulkner County).
My payment failed. What happens?
- You get 7 days to fix it - you keep selling. You see a notice on your Profile page and get an email on the first day, day 5 and the last day, with the Whop link.
- After 7 days your account drops to the free level: you can't post new items, and only your newest 5 live items stay up.
- The rest are hidden, not deleted.
- Your messages keep working.
- Pay again and everything comes back.
You can download your data any time: Profile -> Download my data.
Pay on Whop again, then tap I've paid - check now, and your items come back.
How do I cancel my plan?
Cancel on Whop (the payment page you joined on). You keep selling until the end of the period you paid for.
Meeting in person
UseMart can't check every person or item. These habits lower your risk.
Where should we meet?
- A busy public place. Many police departments have a safe exchange spot or a public lobby you can use - call ahead to check. Busy store entrances and libraries work too. The pickup form lists a few.
- Never at your home or theirs. Never give out your home address.
- For big items (furniture, mowers), meet in a public spot if you can, or have someone with you and keep the door open.
When?
- In daylight if you can.
- Tell a friend or family member where you are going, who you are meeting and when you will be back.
Bring someone.
Take a friend, especially for big-ticket items or if you are meeting someone new.
Paying
- See the item in person and check it before you pay. Plug it in, start it, open it.
- Cash is simplest. Count it in front of each other. For large amounts, meet at a bank.
- Only read your handshake code to the seller once you have the item.
- Never pay before you have seen the item.
Common scams - walk away if you see these
- Gift cards. No real buyer or seller asks to be paid in gift cards.
- "Send it on Zelle / Cash App / Venmo first to hold it." Never pay before you meet. Money sent this way is very hard to get back.
- Shipping only. A "local" seller who can't meet and will only ship after you pay is a big warning sign.
- "I'll send you a verification code - read it back to me." Never share a code someone texts you. It is usually someone trying to take over your phone number, email or a Google Voice number. UseMart staff will never ask for your sign-in code.
- Overpayment. A buyer sends more than the price and asks you to send back the difference. The first payment bounces later. Never refund an "extra".
- Moving off UseMart fast with a link to "confirm" or "pay" on another site. Don't click links from strangers.
- A price far too good to be true, especially with pressure to decide now.
If something feels wrong, stop, block the member, and report it.
If a message you receive shows a "Be careful" box above it, UseMart spotted a common scam sign in it (a link to another website, gift cards, paying before you meet, a code). The message may still be fine - read it with care, never send a code, and meet in person before paying. The sender is not told.
If you feel unsafe
Leave. If you are in danger, call 911.
Trust and reviews
How do ratings work?
- Only a finished deal can be rated - one where the seller typed the buyer's code, or both of you tapped "We met - mark done". No deal, no rating.
- After a deal you each have 14 days to rate the other.
- Buyers rate the seller on: item as described, communication, reliability (1 to 5 stars).
- Sellers rate the buyer on: communication and reliability.
- Both answer "Would you deal with them again?" (yes, not sure, no) and can add a short note. No links.
- Haggling, saying no, or replying late at night never counts against anyone.
What does "blind" mean?
Neither of you can see the other's rating until you have both rated, or the 14 days run out. So nobody rates "back at" the other.
When do stars show?
Stars show once someone has at least 3 ratings that count. Until then they show as "New Member - Not Enough History". You also see how many verified deals they have done.
Deals between the same two people count once every 30 days, so two friends can't pump each other's score.
What is TrustScore?
TrustScore is a number from 0 to 100 based on completed UseMart deals - showing up, following through, how quickly they answer a buyer's first message, and their ratings. It is not a background check and it says nothing about anything outside UseMart.
- No plan, payment or badge can buy or change a score.
- New members show "New Member" or "Building History". There is no number until there is enough real history.
- Recent deals count the most.
I got a rating I think is wrong.
On your Profile page, under Your reputation, dispute it and tell us why. A person looks at it. If we agree, the rating is hidden from your numbers (we keep it on file). We never remove a rating just because it is negative.
Problems
How do I report an item?
Open the item, tap Report this item, pick a reason and add a note. Reports go to a person at UseMart.
If several members report the same item, or anyone reports a danger to a child, it comes down right away while we look.
How do I report a member or a message?
Tap Report this member next to "Block this member" - on their item or at the top of your chat. Pick a reason and add a note.
To report one message, tap âš‘ Report under a message they sent you. A person at UseMart reads that message and the few around it - nothing else of your chat.
How do I block someone?
Tap Block this member on their item or in your chat. After that, neither of you can message, make offers or set pickups with the other, and you drop out of each other's search. They are not told who blocked them.
Unblock any time on your Profile page.
Someone didn't show up for a pickup.
30 minutes after the meet time, tap They didn't show in the chat. It goes on their record. You can set a new time or move on.
If you were the one marked as a no-show and it isn't true, open that chat and tap I was there - dispute this no-show within 7 days of the report. Add a short note about what happened. While a person at UseMart looks at it, the no-show doesn't count on your record; you both see the decision in the chat.
The item wasn't as described.
UseMart doesn't handle payments, so we can't give refunds. What you can do:
- Talk to the seller first - many people will make it right.
- Rate "item as described" honestly after the deal.
- If it looks like a scam or the listing lied on purpose, report it and tell us what happened (with photos if you can).
This is why we say: see the item and check it before you pay.
I can't sign in.
- No code arrived: check spam, then ask for a new code. You can ask for up to 5 codes an hour.
- "Too many wrong tries": ask for a new code.
- "Too many codes - wait an hour": wait an hour and try again.
- "This account can't sign in - contact UseMart": your account was suspended or closed. Email us at [email protected] if you think we got it wrong. A person looks at it.
The handshake code is locked.
If the seller types the wrong code 5 times, code entry stops for that pickup. You are both told.
- You can still both tap We met - mark done (within 72 hours of the meet time). That finishes the deal.
- Or ask us to unlock it with the Contact UseMart form - give the item name and both usernames. We check with you both first.
Buyers: if you never read the code out loud and the seller kept guessing, don't hand over money or the code - and tell us.
"Slow down" message?
To stop spam, there are hourly limits on new items, messages and new chats (newer accounts start lower). The message says when you can try again.
Asking for something to be taken down for legal reasons
Use Report a legal problem at the bottom of any page. You don't need an account.
- An intimate image of you shared without your consent (TAKE IT DOWN Act): the item is hidden at once and a person decides within 48 hours. If removed, we also remove other items carrying the same photo.
- Your copyright (DMCA): the item is hidden at once and decided within 48 hours. The seller is told and can send a counter-notice.
- Another legal problem: a person looks at it.
False copyright claims can carry legal penalties.
If someone is in danger right now, call 911. If a child is in danger, also report it to NCMEC's CyberTipline at report.cybertip.org.
How do I close my account?
On your Profile page, under Close my account, type CLOSE. You are signed out for good and your items come off UseMart. Your alerts, saved items and contact ways are deleted, and your name and email are removed (others see "Former member"). Open offers and pickups you booked as a buyer are cancelled too, and the sellers are told. Some records are kept for safety and legal reasons. Cancel any paid plan on Whop yourself.
Privacy
Who can see where I live?
Nobody. UseMart never asks for your street address. Items show your town and an approximate spot from your ZIP code area. The map is blurred on purpose. You agree the exact meeting place in messages.
Do my photos show my location?
No. Phones hide the GPS spot inside photos. UseMart removes that before saving.
What do other members see?
Your username, your town or county, your items, photos and ratings. The contact ways you ticked (text, call, Messenger...) show only to signed-in members, only on your items.
What we never share or show
- Your email address (only you see it).
- Your home address (we never collect it).
- Your card details (sellers pay Whop directly; UseMart never sees card numbers).
- Your Facebook password (we never ask for it).
- Your messages (only the two people in a chat can read it; alert emails never include message text). If you report a message, a person at UseMart reads that message and the few around it.
- Who saved or looked at an item (sellers see counts only).
- Who made a WantFinder alert.
- We don't sell your information.
Full details are in the Privacy Policy.
Contact us
How do I reach a person?
Signed in? Use the Contact UseMart form just below. Pick what it's about and tell us what happened. Our answer shows on this page.
Email: [email protected]
We reply within 2 business days.
Please include your username, the item name or link, and what happened.
In danger right now? Call 911 first.
What's the automatic answer?
When you write to us, UseMart first shows the help answers that match your question. If you still send it, you may get an automatic answer written only from these help pages, labelled "Automatic answer from UseMart's help pages".
- Tap This solved it and we close it.
- Tap I still need a person and a person at UseMart replies within 2 business days.
Reports, safety, legal questions, closing your account and payment problems always go straight to a person - no automatic answer.
